Considering the last time I wrote in this journal was three years ago, I figured an updated piece would be suitable. I don't really like posting unless I have something logical to say. So I'm hoping by the end of this I'll have some words of wisdom.

My year-long absence, as you can see, is over. What's been keeping me away? Trying to finish up my BA in Information System Security is what. Last year the workload got pretty rough and really left zero time for doing anything super creative. This year will be different, however. The workload will be worse and I'll still make time for getting back to what I used to so love doing.

Since I've been gone and have been looking at old buddies whom I used to watch... I've seen a GREAT improvement in their work. In others... I still see the same ol' same ol'... which kind of gets to me.

Looking back to some of my old work I've seen how I've grown with sketches/drawings. I can honestly see where each "milestone" picture that I've done since I first started posting on DA. It's kind of nice to look back and realize how far you've come.

Now, with others whom I've watched for years everything still is the same. It makes me think that they're encased in a bubble of comfort with their imagery and don't wish to take it any further. It seems like no desire is there to move forward to broaden their potential.

As an artist (at least I hope I can call myself that), I thought we were supposed to embrace new challenges and continue to better ourselves with each piece we submit?



I mean, I understand taking some fun drawing time to play with styles that one has developed, but shouldn't we move forward with bettering ourselves?

Anyway-- I'm going to continue to do what I've been doing over the years: Trying to submit to better myself and have fun with it all.
